Four Days Until Raleigh 70.3!

Today is Wednesday, and Raleigh 70.3 is on Sunday. I’m excited and ready for the challenge! I’m sure I’ll get nervous as I’m standing in the warm waters of Lake Jordan impatiently waiting for the air horn to blow, but, I’m excited to take on Raleigh 70.3 again, and I’m looking to have a huge improvement in my performance. Last year at Raleigh 70.3, I missed the swim cut-off by 5 minutes, with a total swim time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. My swim time estimation going in was 45 minutes. The water was unusually choppy, and I did not do a good job with sighting and swimming straight. I ended up swimming over 1.5 miles instead of 1.2 miles. Even though missing the swim cut-off disqualified me from being an official finisher, I continued on with the race and completed the 56 mile bike and the 13.1 mile run. Although, I was proud of my performance, I was disappointed with not officially finishing the race due to my swim portion.

This time around, I’m looking to have a great race and overall experience at Raleigh 70.3. I feel that I am race ready. Overall, I think I did fairly well with my training plan for this race. I feel more efficient with my swimming, faster with my biking, and stronger with my running. My main race goal is to officially finish the race! My secondary goal is to finish around (or under) 6 hours.
